Kadima Cooks July 20: Lemon Pound Cake!

This week’s baking project comes as a special request! ¬†Shout-out to Ben Z. for the delicious suggestion of lemon cake! (original recipe featured on Food Network here)

Ingredients you’ll need:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened at room temperature, extra for buttering pan
1 cup sugar, plus 1/3 cup
4 eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup lemon juice, plus 1/3 cup

Materials you’ll need:

Oven preheated to 350* F
6-cup loaf pan
parchment or waxed paper
mixing bowls, one medium, one small
hand or stand mixer
measuring cups
toothpick or skewer for testing
spoons and spatulas for mixing
wire cooling rack
turkey baster or pastry brush

*The Kadima Cooks series is open to all ages, but skills and materials will be geared toward elementary-age participants and require minimal hands-on parental support (for example, placing and removing items in the oven).
